Probiotics and Prebiotics on a Ketogenic Diet

PROBIOTICS AND PREBIOTICS ON A KETOGENIC DIET

WHAT IS PROBIOTICS AND PREBIOTICS ON A KETOGENIC DIET?

ANTIBIOTICS, GUT HEALTH AND MOOD

Probiotics and prebiotics on a Ketogenic diet is something I am very passionate about, because I am very passionate about helping people heal their body through food because the medical field has failed me and my family numerous times. When I was a young teenager I suffered with severe acne. My mom took me to the doctor and without asking what my diet looked like, he put me on a strong dose of antibiotics. I can now pinpoint that moment as a huge health changer for not just my physical health but also my mental health.

Sure, I was happy the acne was gone but my moods started to down-spiral. I was always a really happy kid, but I remember that was a time that I started to get very sad times. Why you ask? Just because of an antiobiotic? Yes, these powerful antibiotics that teens are being put on for acne wreak havoc on our gut where serotonin is produced. Our gut health directly correlates to our moods. What is so detrimental is that I was on these antibiotics for years without realizing the damage they were doing.

I trusted my doctor. This long-lasting downhill spiral of my gut health causes intense sugar cravings and caused me to gain weight. The weight further lowered my happy-go-lucky spirit. Man, if my doctor just would have asked what I ate and knew that the cereal and skim milk I had to start off each day was the culprit of my acne I wouldn’t have gone through all of the issues I did.

But of-course that brought me to who I am today! I’m just expressing that you and your family does not have to suffer like I did.

DON’T PROBIOTICS NEED A PREBIOTIC???

Probiotics and Prebiotics on a Ketogenic Diet

TESTIMONY OF THE DAY

“Just wanted to let you know that I have been following your blog for years and would just take a recipe or two, I would become totally devoted but then fail. This time around I have actually been following for almost 2 months.

I have lost 22 pounds since May and have not been Keto, just low carb. I wanted to say for those out there, who suffer from thyroid issues and struggle with weight loss, I had mine removed years ago and it was always up and down battle. But once I became serious, I was able to do it.

You helped me tremendously! I still have about 45-55 pounds to get to my personal goal, I just wanted to let others who struggled like I did to know that the weight can come off. I am still tired a lot some days and have some tummy troubles, but I guess that is the nature of being dependent on a pill to produce something that should be there naturally. Thank you, Maria” – Margarita

Hi, Maria. Can you use a raw apple cider vinegar (with the mother) or does it have to be coconut vinegar?

  • Jill A says:

Hi Maria, our family is using all the probiotics mentioned in your video. I also have the coconut vinegar you use but even I cannot handle taking it without gagging. Any other suggestions for a good way to get the prebiotic in for 2 adults, a 2 year old and a 7 year old?

    Hi Maria,

    What about kombucha vinegar?

    Thanks

  • Darlene says:

Maria…..Do you know of IMO’s being prebiotic? Would that work as well?

  • Jane L says:

Hi Maria, I have been using the Doterra probiotic and it says it has a prebiotic in it. Do I still need the coconut vinegar

  • Taz says:

Hi Maria, does kefir work as a probiotic?

  • Lynn says:

    Hi Maria,

I have a question about your recommendation for older children. The children’s probiotic says for 3 and up. I have two children, 10 and 13. I always get stumped…wondering if they need larger amounts of probiotics. I think this bottle has 10 billion (2/day) if I’m not mistaken. They are also on the higher side of scale. Sometimes I have given them mine in food. Stumped.

  • Helene says:

FOS is a prebio but we need a variety of prebios, inulin and such, also.

  • Christina says:

Can you mix the tbsp of coconut vinegar with a cup of water and drink it, or do you need to take it by itself?

  • Wendy says:

    What about yacon syrup?

  • Trary Ubarri says:

I have a teenager with acne and was surprised by your comment of skim milk and cereal causing acne. Can you elaborate? Where can I find more info on foods creating acne? thanks.

  • Liz says:

I tried to swallow 1 TBLS coconut vinegar. It worked like ipecac. Dangit! The next day I mixed it with water. I was able to keep it down but wow, that’s hard to drink. Any other options for prebiotic? 🙁

  • sandi says:

I got the probiotic you advised and really love it. Unfortunately i am now on a ten day antibiotic. i will keep taking the probiotic but was wondering what I should do to supplement it

  • Sandie Larouche says:

Dear Maria, thank you so much for this.. I always gave my children and took probiotics without prebiotics… My 8 years son is about to start a ketogenic diet for epilepsy control. I would love to continue to give him probiotics. The liquids bioK contains way to much sugar. Do you think ultra flora would be appropriate for him? what is the amount of carbs in each tablets.
    Thank you in advance.

    Sandie
