Electrolyte Gummies
My son Kai had so much fun doing the Electrolyte Ice Pops video all by himself, he thought of another keto recipe with his favorite electrolyte mix, LMNT.
He made Electrolyte Gummies! I have to admit, these are so great and PERFECT for my running long distances! I can pack them on my long runs and pop one as needed!
I love that he loves to drink LMNT and make electrolyte gummies with it! LMNT is a great electrolyte drink and unlike Gatorade it has zero sugar and zero food dye or additives.
Electrolyte Gummies for Keto Energy
Adding in LMNT is VERY HELPFUL when you begin the ketogenic diet because it will help you combat low energy, low moods, constipation and headaches. Instead of adding in carbs for energy, you must think about your diet and energy differently.
Within the first two to four days of lowering your carb intake to below 20 total grams a day, you will start showing elevated blood ketones, which marks the start of your body utilizing nutritional ketosis (and lipolysis) and shifting its primary fuel source to fat. However, you might have issues with energy, moods, headaches, or other common “keto flu” symptoms. To combat the symptoms of keto flu, you first must make sure to keep your water and electrolytes up; this is why salt (LMNT) is so important. When becoming keto-adapted, your kidneys release much of the salt (and associated water) that they hold onto with higher-carb diets. You need to add more water, salt and electrolytes (LMNT) to ensure that you don’t get dehydrated. You also might want to reduce your workouts and activity levels during the first couple weeks.
A well-formulated ketogenic diet requires getting enough salt, electrolytes and water. That is why even my kids drink LMNT! It is an important part of becoming keto-adapted, especially in the first few weeks after making the switch to keto. If you do a carb-up, that will make you retain water (carbohydrates make you retain water) but won’t fix the problem of electrolyte imbalance. CLICK HERE for more on carb ups.

Nutrition
TESTIMONY OF THE DAY
“I am now the same weight I was at 21 before I had my first baby. I am 5’6″ and now 135 lbs after weighing between 155-160 lbs for the last 20 years after having my kiddos.
From a health marker perspective, everything looked really good for me prior to this but I was clearly over weight and knew it, had issues with my hormones, was tired and had a lot of back pain. Now, I feel amazing at 46, better than I did in my 30s and for the most part, my chronic back pain is gone which is huge. My side of the family tends to live to a ripe old age but Alzheimer’s and dementia as well as Parkinson’s are very prevalent and I feel better cognitively than ever before.
My husband is 6’0 and now 195 lbs down from 230/240, somewhere in there. He was a metabolic disaster with a strong family history of T2d and has reversed all his negative lab results. His a1c is 4.8, Insulin 2.1, triglycerides 69 (was 276), CRP 1.0 (was 4.5) and his cholesterol numbers have “improved”.
We did go ahead and go through the Life Line Screening as the naturopath suggested and EVERYTHING looks great.” – Nikole
Kai has to be the cutest! Love his enthusiasm for the keto lifestyle. Bravo Kai!
Thank you so much!! 🙂
Are we supposed to count the protein in the collagen for our daily macros?
I live in Australia & I can’t find that brand of electrolytes – any suggestions for alternatives please?
Look for one with natural sweetener and no junk added (preservatives, etc). 🙂
Thank you – it’s difficult where I live – mostly I have to shop online as we live in a small regional area so don’t have much choice.
Nice job Kai!
Thanks!!
Oh my word…that has to be one of the cutest things ever!!! Great job, Kai! I can’t wait to make some of these. They would be a perfect take-along for my son who runs cross country!
Thank you!!
These are delicious, I’ve made 5 batches already with my favourite 3 flavours.
Thanks!
