Are you still in Hawaii? Have been loving the videos of whales! Such great info on your website/videos, etc. Have been listening to some podcasts where Craig was guest and they were SO informative (KetoDiet, Ketovangelist, Living La Vida Low-Carb). Loving it!

  • Dana Archer says:

What can I do about the Keto Itch/Rash? I’ve tried adding more carbs, which helps but definitely stops weight loss. Help!!

    • Allison says:

I would love to hear the answer to this too because I got the Keto rash and it lasted a month—until I stopped eating Keto. = ( I also had what felt like the Keto breath, though my family said they did not smell anything off or bad on my breath, my mouth felt like I had licked a public toilet clean. Nothing I tried made that feeling go away for more than 30 minutes.

    • Maria Emmerich says:

We can address in a video. But adding carbs is not what you want to do. Your body is detoxing you need to let it complete the process of getting rid of the toxins and junk. It take 4-6 weeks to get completely keto adapted. 🙂

  • SAM says:

Hi, Thank you for all of this amazing information! I just used the keto calculator. Genius!
Can you address the concern that keto might be damaging to the liver and the kidneys? (Think fatty liver, for one thing.)
And also, why is salt intake necessary for intermittent fasting (12 to 16 hours per day between dinner and “breakfast” or the first meal of the day? Do you or did you ever use potassium citrate? For intermittent fasting? And if so, does one need to keep it up forever? So I guess, a topic would be the first week or two or three of keto and its challenges. Perhaps you’ve already covered that!
    Thanks again!
    SAM

    • Maria Emmerich says:

Yes, we can address in our keto Myths video. 🙂
Salt intake is throughout the day, not just during eating window. You get a lot of potassium from food (beef, etc) so needs vary by person.

  • Julie says:

So many misconceptions about Keto. I have started and stopped 5+ times, because it just seemed too overwhelming and I too was gaining weight. Thank you for breaking it down for us and YOUR BOOKS!!!!!

  • Ingrid Taylor says:

What book is Craig showing? I realized that I’m doing exactly what you’re talking about–eating gobs of extra fat and seeing no weight loss 🙁

  • Cassandra says:

    Hi Maria and Craig:

This was a GREAT video and so helpful!!! Keep making them please!

  • Sarah Martin says:

So, I have been doing keto for about 7 months and have hit a plateau but my fat is always higher. I use the macros on My fitness pal. How do I change this? Could I actually be eating too much fat?

    • Maria Emmerich says:

Likely too much fat and not enough protein. There is a link to a calculator at the bottom of this page. 🙂

  • Jenny says:

I second the liver comment. Also, is there a way to reverse fatty liver with keto? I guess if you liver isn’t functioning properly to utilize the fat, can high amounts be harmful?

  • Jenny says:

Second question…this has confused me for a while now…If you are intermittent fasting and only eating 2 or even 1 meal a day, how the heck do you meet your protein goals for the day? I mean even if you are a relatively small person, you’d need at least 50-60 g of protein to preserve muscle and more to gain, and you’d need to eat that all in 1 meal?! Please explain

    • Maria Emmerich says:

Just focus on the protein first. One whole chicken breast in 40-50g protein. So 1 and a half of those will get you to your goal in one meal. 🙂

  • Donna says:

Just excellent (as usual) video Maria & Craig. This adds a real ‘zing’ factor to being a subscriber! Much appreciation and thanks for being on top of Keto Science with clear, accurate information! I just read this incredible article which totally backs up everything you say with regards to macro importance…and could prevent cognitive decline down the road!: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2018/01/the-startling-link-between-sugar-and-alzheimers/

  • Claire Moniz says:

    I love this info .
I do have the Keto book and just started to read so these videos are great .

  • Jill minks says:

So talk more about total carbs. I am almost thru you Keto book and even the meal plan at the end would leave me starving. Way to generic to think that 2 meals one snack being pork rinds and 1/2 cup salsa is realistic in today. I can’t get enough fat and I still don’t know how to figure total carbs! Disappointed….

    • Maria Emmerich says:

I think you need to go back and re-read the book, especially chapter 4. We explain exactly what your macros need to be. Total carbs of 20g or less is best. And fat is not a goal, it is a limit. So never add fat to “get enough”.

  • Sonja Stendera says:

Thus it bowls down to the same formula: you have to watch calories and have the less energy in than out (or more out than in) to lose weight! It does not matter whether keto, low carb, high carb or whatever diet on the planet, it is all about calories….still!
even if people do not want to realize it…but when you do, you do not need diet plans, products, trends, primal, WW or whatever, just a table, a plan and a calculator!!

    • Maria Emmerich says:

No, not really. That is a big part. But hormones are very important too. This lifestyle controls hormones so you are able to eat less and stay satiated.

  • Barbara D. says:

Thank you for such engaging & informative videos!

  • Laura Kannard says:

Thanks for these videos, so very helpful

  • Lyndsey says:

    Hey Maria,
Thank you for all the great info in the above video! Could you please tell me the name of the book that you are reffering to in your video please so I can buy it!
    Thanks in advance

  • Donna says:

Would love more info on Keto while in menopause. Wonky hormones, hot flashes and anxiety.

  • Carolyn Huntzinger says:

Just wanted to thank you so much. I am one of those who learns visually and by reading, so hearing you and Craig along with the book really helps me. I look forward to your videos about supplements for hair loss, infertility, and overcoming cramping. Thanks again!

  • Stephanie says:

    This was great!! Thank you!!

  • Barb says:

Thank you for the book, the Keto Calculator, the videos and all the great resources. I have done Keto in the past and followed you for awhile. I have a question…if I’m in Ketosis on 40grams of Carbs, what is the value of lowering them to 20 or as the Keto Caculator suggested to 10. I do need to lose weight – so is that the only reason? If the purpose of lower carbs is to stay in Ketosis and I do that at 40, can I keep them there? I totally understand what you’re saying about the fat and I think that’s been a mistake I’ve made in the past. Eating too much fat. Thank you!!

  • Kristin says:

I second the Keto myths! My husband hates that I’m doing this and sends me articles about how terrible it is ALL.THE.TIME. I need some really sound resources to defend it!

  • Diane says:

Hi Maria, Please tell us what is the best food tracker app to use? I have your books, and am using your recipes (delicious!) have not seen anything on food tracker apps to use. thanks!
