“Maria, Thank You!
Scariest moment I had in 1992 is sitting in the Doctor’s Office and having him say, “You’re a Diabetic and you need to be on medications.” After I retired in 1994, I started to have more medical issues, High Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure and my weight ballooned to almost 300 pounds just to add to my misery. I lived with more problems than I could imagine and they just kept piling up. I stopped exercising, couldn’t lose weight, I had a persistent cough that caused visual blackouts (once while driving), muscle pains as if I had the flu aching all over my body and to top it all the last 10 years I started to notice head shakes and memory loss. To be honest, medically I was unsure of myself and did not no where to turn or what to do. I was sick for over 20 years.
So, my daughter and my wife started scheming and eventually started an intervention. It was extreme. My daughter flew home for a month and did the cooking and my wife and I started our extreme diet called HCG. It worked after 30 days and I lost 40 pounds. Tons of reactions that once again scared me as my body started to react badly to the medications I was taking. I finally got off diabetes medications as my weight came off. So where is the problem…I didn’t know how to keep the weight off. That is when my daughter introduced me to Maria Emmerich and now my life really started to change. Not only did I keep my weight off but I learned so much about how my body reacts to foods.
Now I made it a priority in my life to learn about how my body works, how food works in the body and what it does. I always use Maria as my base of knowledge because of her explanation of the human biology and information that guides me towards the information I need to fix myself. Here recipes and books have really helped me. This may sound dumb, I had to learn how to eat again. I needed to learn how to take care of my body. I obviously had not know this because if I did, I would like to think I would have never got myself into this mess in the first place.
I must say, as an extreme reaction to hitting bottom HCG was a huge part of my weight loss but Maria, you were crucial in my understanding and learning about health and how to keep it off. It has now been over 4 years that I have kept my weight stable. I have kept to low carbs, moderate proteins and a large part of my normal days is good fats. As of this month February 2014 and for over 22 years of illness with Hypertension Diabetes, and High Cholesterol, I am drug free. Thank You Maria. Changing to a paleo diet 5 years ago helped me loose 20 pounds and stopped the pain from joint inflammation. for me (and my family), eating ketogenic is the ONLY way I stay healthy and am successful at controlling my weight. I believe it comes down to gut bugs for us, and ketogenic keeps them starved, so we end up with a die off effect. My big problem, is cheating. Really new to this WOE but as I lose inches, my breathing is getting better and less pain in my knees.

Taking control of your diet is the most important thing you can do for your health. Learn what works best for your body and your weak points. Paleo, gluten free, whatever it takes to be the best you can be. Use all the tools you can find, webinars, cookbooks (like this one) and newsletters. Experiment and with trial and error you will find what is your best plan.

Eating the keto way has helped me lose 15 lbs so far a much needed weight loss. I lost weight not lost and gained the same 10 lbs over and over again. Best decesion we ever made regarding our health. I have yet to totally nail down this new lifestyle, but with the changes I have made thanks to finding Maria as well as Dr Davis I have finally got my weight under 200 lbs for the first time in 20 years and have greatly improved my cholesterol numbers as well as finding increased stamina for exercise!
Eating Paleo has helped me lose 270 lbs. It helped me get my life back…but as soon as I started eating refined carbs (I am not talking about junk food either) I was in big trouble with cravings and started to gain some of the weight back.

Eating paleo has turned my life around. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia, IBS, depression, possible Lupis, asthma, and hypoglycemia by 20 yrs old, all I was offered was meds to “manage pain and depression”. Thing is, I wasn’t sad, I just hurt!! So I set out for years in search of how to feel better. It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with Celiac 7.5 yrs ago that I realized 99% of what ailed me was diet related. Today, I am mostly pain free, continuing to heal my gut damage, no longer suffer from migraines or IBS, and enjoy life! I took it one step further to keto about 1 yrs ago and my energy has been incredible! My days are no longer scheduled around naps and snacks. My challenge now is cooking for my family so we can all eat the same foods. Love this way of life!!

I’m more keto adapted than paleo but I love the creativity of the recipes on some of the paleo web sites. I can easily adapt the recipes for my use. If I don’t win this cookbook I will buy it!
I love not feeling like I need to eat all the time. It saves so much time and money on food and cooking for fewer meals. Also looking forward to improved health as I’ve already dropped 4 lbs or so and feel much more energy.

I started on a paleo way of eating one of year ago. It has helped with hormonal swings, foggy thinking, dry contacts after meals, and a few other symptoms. I am just starting to look into the ketogenic way of eating.
I have never in my life had this clear skin, been able to sleep good, have no knee pain or have this much clear thinking and energy and that includes in my 20’s when I exercised 2 hours a day and ate virtually no fat at all. I am now 48 and feel better than when I was in my 20’s. I am not consumed by thoughts of food any longer, I don’t have cravings and I can eat a portion of food and be satisfied. I have more time in my life for other things. and because my knees feel so good I don’ t have to go through the expensive procedure so essentially this lifestyle has saved me time and money and the freedom to enjoy my life more fully. it’s incredible what healthy food, understanding this keto process and supplements can do for my life. I will never go back. thank you Maria. it’s really not that hard when you get the hang of it.

Hi, I am so excited to be able to post here.. A little over two weeks ago I decided it was time to get on the ball and do a low carb diet. (I had done one in the past with success, but fell back into my old eating patterns) While looking for some interesting recipe ideas that I could share with my family, I ran into Maria’s blog with lot’s of recipes. I began reading and was hooked to the keto idea. I already knew the effects of keto from the induction of Atkins in the past.. That was my favorite part. I was so excited about what I was reading that I ordered the book Keto Adapted right away. I read most of it that night! I can not help but share this information with every one that I know. I hope to change my neighbors, family and friends. I am so shaken that we have people in our country that are dying with cancer and suffering with so many things, that can so easily be changed.. I have spent the last two weeks reading, studying and listening to podcasts and you tube interviews with Doctors that have so much to offer.
As for myself, I have lost 11 pounds in the 18 days I have been on this diet. My mom has lost 9, My sister 2, her son 6, my brother in law 9, a good friend 5. I have a LOT more people to share information with.. To link them with people that have researched and know how to teach people to take charge of their lives.. I am ALIVE AND WELL! Thank you Maria for the work and information that you are sharing to change lives forever! Sincerly
I am still struggling to eat your way Maria. I know it’s the way to go and I incorporate some of it into my life and then go back to my old ways. Hopefully I will make it totally work some day.
My weight has steadily decreased and I am now at my goal weight. My joints feel so much better, and I have more energy to work and take care of my grandsons. I feel more calm in a stressful work environment. I feel my health has overall improved all because of eating the Maria Emmerich, Keto-Adapted lifestyle. I would love have more recipes that are easy to make!
My GERD was so bad that it would wake me up choking at night. Since I have changed the way I eat I rarely ever have GERD anymore.
Maria, I know your way is the right way, but it is a struggle for me right now. I am not sleeping enough or eating right. I am working 60-80 hours a week, which does not leave me much time to grocery shop and cook correctly, which leaves me eating . . .crap!
I eat low carb – not full keto – but I’ve already noticed no more heartburn, hardly any IBS symptoms, my candida problems have almost disappeared. Hooray!

The most important thing that the Keto lifestyle has given me is HOPE. The first 6 months of 2014 I suffered several diabetes related complications including a wound that developed necrosis and led to a patch of flesh having to be removed. I started on 6 July and I have managed to normalise my blood sugar readings and haven’t had another episode since then and I have lost 28lbs and 2 jeans sizes. I now look forward to the future
Keto has given me more energy than I’ve ever had. I fell off the bandwagon, and was miserable, but now I’m back at it, and am just full of energy.
I am a work in progress. But I see how my life has improved when I follow this lifestyle. Less pain, less cravings, more energy. Now if I could only stay on a true course!
Paleo/Keto is helping my son who has multiple digestive disease issues including Crohn’s. It is also helping me with Type II Diabetes – lowering blood sugars. And it is a tasty way to eat!

Doesn’t the Paleo diet use sweeteners such as honey, maple syrup etc? Or is this cookbook different?
There are some recipes that include ingredients like that, but most I approve of. 🙂
When I’m in nutritional ketosis, my chronic fatigue, pain, and brain fog seems to vanish. Paleo wasn’t enough for me… Ketosis has made all the difference, combined with low FODMAP and AIP. It’s tricky, but worth it!

I used to get majorly (requiring antibiotics) sick 4 times every year, no fail……..since I started this way of eating, I get 1 or 2 mild occurrences that go away without antibiotics.

I gained almost 50 pounds in my mid-40’s after spending most of my adult life dieting. Looking back, I had never been more than 5-10 lbs overweight at any given time – I had just wrecked my metabolism dieting to get “skinny”. Eating paleo has helped me stabilize and become more “lean” – not just skinny.

I confess to some interest in Paleo eating. The concept has appeal and meshes well in many areas with my commitment to LC eating. Staying in Ketosis has helped me keep off 35 pounds and given me tools to control my addiction to sugar – but its biggest effect has been on my emotional health. Learning to exercise (at least SOME) discipline over my SELF has restored my confidence and joy.
Eating this way has helped me eliminate fibromyalgia pain and control my blood sugar levels. It also has afforded me to be at healthy weight. My husband has lost over 60 lbs since January after doing this lifestyle too.

I too fell victim to the HCG craze, and once I stopped starving myself the weight piled back on and then some. Eating Maria’s way has proven to make me feel better and more balanced as well as giving me the tools to feed my family in a healthy way.
Low carb alone was not helping me – neither losing weight nor feeling better. 4 weeks on a ketogenic diet (more emphasis on keeping protein moderate and increasing fats) and I have lost 7 lbs and have more energy.

When I went Paleo my chronic urticaria angiodema completely healed. I did feel much better, but when I went Keto, I took my health to a level I never thought possible.
