Keto Restaurant Favorites

When did it become so common to eat out? I remember that eating out was a rare Friday night treat. Now if you walk into a restaurant at the lunch hour it is packed! It is too often I hear complaints about the cost of eating healthy when in reality the cost of eating out is way more. We went to brunch the other day with my boys and we all got the eggs and salmon with extra hollandaise, side of chorizo and a side of bacon. Craig got an organic coffee, the boys and I had water and the bill was $63.00! For eggs! Seriously people. It is almost comical that I gasped at the store the day before at the price of a carton of eggs.

We gasp at spending $4.00 on a dozen eggs that could feed a whole family but we don’t think twice as spending that on one coffee drink at Starbucks!

I love the movie The Hundred Foot Journey. It is about a family from India forced to move to France and start a restaurant. They learn from a local French woman that using the best quality ingredients are what makes food taste amazing. But we no longer use these amazing ingredients because we want everything to be quick and easy. Too many people do not want to take the time to cook.

Most Americans are consuming copious amounts of fake flavorings a year without even knowing it. These man-made flavor chemicals create wanting more and causes a detrimental addictive cycle and I too was sadly caught up with this detrimental madness.

Flavor determines what we eat on a daily basis. I understand that people want to eat delicious food; I do too. However, the chemical laden foods filled with flavor enhancers isn’t satisfying our search for taste nor is it doing a body good.

I don’t like to hear a client say I can’t give up certain foods or “I never can give up coffee” or my husband “will never give up beer”. I know it is a cliché but “never say never.” I say that because I was the pickiest eater as a child. I remember my best friend, Marla’s mom crying because I never ate her food. Seriously, how rude was I that my friend’s mom made a homemade meal and I wouldn’t take a bite?

I changed my palate and so can you!

My birthday parties were often at Hardee’s in town when I was a little girl. I loved the hamburgers, the French fries, the ketchup and the tasty malt to go along side my flavor bomb of a meal. I grew up with too much junk which caused my palate to be ruined at a young age.

Finding true health is NOT about calories in and calories out. Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity = doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, yet we all seem to be succumb to this lie. Our bodies are more complex than that. It isn’t a simple answer. Our hormones and mitochondria determine our fat loss and fat gain. I want you to know that you do not have to kill yourself at the gym in order to lose weight.

This book is to help you feel encouraged and empowered to take control and understand that you deserve this and you do not have to live off of salads or live at the gym. If you are willing to take the time to prepare meals will feel like the amazing self you are meant to be!

FIRST RESTAURANT MEMORY

One of my earliest memories of eating at restaurants is at High View in Medford, WI. If you have ever been to Wisconsin in the spring you know that Friday nights mean fish fry. Friday night fish fry are at just about every restaurant in Wisconsin; including bars and church basements. People gather to socialize and eat copious amounts of fried fish in lieu of lent.  Every Friday at about 5:30pm, my parents would travel with my little brother and I to High View which was a lovely quaint restaurant on a small lake. My brother and I would run out of the station wagon with our fishing pole in hand while my parents entered the restaurant to visit with friends. My brother and I were more interested in catching fish rather than eating it; I never liked fish growing up; unless it came out of a box and stated “Fish Sticks” on it (remember… I was the pickiest eater!). We would fish until my dad came to tell us that the food was ready and it was time to eat. We ran in quickly to eat so we could get back to our fishing. I eventually became a hostess and a waitress at High View when I turned 16. Every waitress remembers those difficult guests that are hard to please and my mom was the first customer that I remember making me work for my tip. I never brought enough lemon for her broiled fish. I laugh at it now; my parents were my best tippers!  Find my fish stick inspired recipe in the American Classics chapter.

Who needs take-out when you can make better versions at home? AND without the carbs!
