Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar and Apple Cider Vinegar Recipes

The internet loves a miracle cure, and apple cider vinegar has been cast in that role more times than it deserves. Depending on where you look, it is supposedly the answer to everything from acne to cuts to heartburn to instant weight loss. The problem is that many of those claims do not hold up well once you compare them with actual research. In some cases, trying vinegar the wrong way can leave you worse off, not better. Topical use can irritate or burn skin, and drinking it undiluted can damage teeth and the esophagus.

That does not mean apple cider vinegar is useless. It just means it is better understood as a limited tool than a miracle remedy.

The reason vinegar gets so much attention is that it contains acetic acid, the compound thought to drive most of its measurable effects. Different vinegars vary somewhat in taste, color, and other plant compounds, but acetic acid appears to be the main reason vinegar shows up in studies on blood sugar and metabolism.

🍎 Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

1. The Best-Supported Benefit: Blood Sugar Response

If there is one benefit that shows up most consistently, it is this: vinegar can modestly improve post-meal glucose and insulin responses in some people. Reviews of clinical trials suggest vinegar may blunt the rise in blood sugar after carbohydrate-rich meals, likely by slowing gastric emptying and affecting starch digestion. The effect is real, but it is generally modest, not dramatic.

That means apple cider vinegar may be helpful as a small strategy around higher-carbohydrate meals, but it should not be framed as a free pass for overeating bread, pasta, or dessert. It can soften the spike. It does not erase the meal.

2. Appetite & Craving Reduction

  • Acetic acid may lower ghrelin (hunger hormone) and promote satiety.
📚 Ostman et al., 2005 – Participants reported greater fullness and ate fewer calories after vinegar intake.

3. Supports Fat Loss

  • Activates AMPK, the body’s “metabolic switch” for increased fat burning and reduced fat storage.
📚 Kondo et al., 2009 – Daily vinegar intake reduced body fat mass in obese subjects.

4. Gut & Digestive Support

  • Mild acidity supports stomach acid production and aids digestion.

  • Contains polyphenols with antimicrobial properties.

5. Heart Health

  • May help lower triglycerides and improve cholesterol balance in some people.

🥤 Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar

1. Daily ACV Tonic

  • 1–2 tsp ACV

  • 8–12 oz water

  • Optional: pinch of sea salt and squeeze of lemon

  • Drink 15–30 min before meals for best effect.

2. ACV Salad Dressing

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp ACV

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • Salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste

  • Whisk and drizzle over greens.

3. Intermittent Fasting Support Drink

  • 1 tbsp ACV

  • 8–10 oz sparkling water

  • Dash of cinnamon or ginger powder for flavor

  • Sip mid-fast to help curb hunger.

4. Post-Workout Electrolyte Mix

  • 12 oz water

  • 1 tbsp ACV

  • ¼ tsp sea salt

  • Stevia or monk fruit to taste.

⚠️ Tips for Safe Use

  • Always dilute ACV—undiluted vinegar can damage teeth and throat.

  • Start with 1 tsp/day and build up slowly.

  • Avoid if you have ulcers, severe reflux, or low potassium without medical guidance.

Protein Sparing Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes

I grew up on Sloppy Joes! It is still one of my favorite dinners; I just make it a little differently now.

I cut the sugar out of the sloppy joes by using Primal Kitchen Ketchup instead and serve the sloppy joe meat in my protein sparing bread or sometimes I wrap them in lettuce. My whole family enjoys my protein sparing Sloppy Joes!

Cheddar Vinaigrette

I LOVE sauces! So figuring out carnivore-friendly sauces was essential for me to make eating carnivore enjoyable for myself but also all of you! One thing that isn’t allowed on carnivore is vinegar. Yep! It’s from a grain, sometimes apples as well as other non-approved carnivore products. So, I wanted to use up some vinegar I had in my pantry. This is still a great low carb/Keto recipe if you are not a strict level one carnivore. This Cheddar Vinaigrette would be considered Level 4 carnivore.
