Summer Weight Loss Success

TESTIMONY OF THE DAY

“One thing I have learned from watching “Beyond Keto” is you don’t need a lot to live happy.
Nature…good healthy food and water…water…water. The science is Fascinating! Not sure I understand it all.
I think of it this way… You have to get back to basics in your life. Remove the junk and you will be less stressed, feel better and simple is way better to live. Threw out a lot of lotions we were using , and I do make my own clothes soap witch is better than what is out there. I only use oils to freshen my home and use many like lavender to relax. Went on a walk this morning without my sunglasses to get the light in my eyes!! Feel great! Thanks again to you both. Very happy!” Shirley

SUMMER Weight Loss SUCCESS

I can’t say this enough… Plan Plan Plan = Success!

Do you gain weight in the summer?  Between the endless amounts of food at BBQs, Weddings, Parties, alcohol, and lack of sleep, I find that most of my clients struggle more in the summer time that in the winter time!

When it is light out until 9pm, it is hard to go to bed. Plus all the activities are hard to cram in. Read more on sleep and our hormones in THIS post.

But more than anything, if you do not plan ahead, you most likely will slip into old habits of grabbing food at fast-food places or easy convenient pre-packaged food.

I hear all the time, “I’m too busy!” I’m sorry, but I run a very busy business, travel to speak, home-school our boys, write cookbooks, workout daily… I am a very busy woman but I make this a priority. In my past life, when I wasn’t prepared and ate junk, everything suffered. My mood, my energy, my lack of focus… the bad food caused a snowball of events that caused everything to fall apart. Taking the time is a priority and I make sure that it happens.

Also, once you get into the habit of prepping before hand, it becomes easy and something you don’t have to think much about. I know just automatically set out the cooler and prep a few things the night before we have a long day planned so all I have to do it throw it all into the cooler and we are off on our adventure!

So here are some of my tips so you can be successful this summer!

1. SLOW COOKER!

Most people think of slow cooking as a winter way-of-cooking. Not me. I love to cook when we are stuck IMG_6085-2inside during a blizzard, but in the summer I want to be outside whenever possible. This is where my slow cooker helps me a ton!

My husband is awesome and as he cleans up for dinner, I plan and prepare the slow cooker for the following day. I put the shell of the slow cooker in the fridge so in the morning all I have to do is take it out and turn it on.

2. Have on hand: Easy snacks for zoo, baseball games

Chocoperfection for my boys for an easy dessert!

Beef sticks (without sugar or gluten!)

Cheese curds

 3. Prep Food on Rainy Days

I always make quadruple batches of things we eat all the time to store in the fridge/freezer for easy meals and snacks!

I always make a few loaves of Keto Bread and buns to store in my freezer for easy buns when we make hamburgers (which we do a lot!)

Other things in my freezer:

Waffles (even kids can toast them for easy breakfast)

Lots of Keto buns for hamburgers brats hotdogs

Ice cream with the yolks from the keto bread

Pizzas

Protein Noodle Lasagna (with keto bread made into garlic bread)

Keto Chili. Taste great with pork clouds!!!

Keto popsicles and push-pops!

When we came home late from camping and just defrosted lasagna with ice cream for dessert!

THINGS IN MY FRIDGE AT ALL TIMES:

Hard boiled eggs

My blender container filled with the ingredients to make one of my “healthified” milkshakes for a treat. All I have to do is blend it up and I have a treat within seconds!

Smoked brats

Organic Hot Dogs

Package of hamburger to make easy walkin tacos with pork clouds!

My homemade ranch dressing as well as many keto sauces (homemade ketchup, keto mustard, keto bbq sauce).

Leafy greens to make a tasty salad.

Cheese curds

BUTTER!

4. Always bring a dish or dessert to pass at BBQ’s and gatherings.Summer Weight Loss Success

As a host, I never would get upset if someone brought food to share! So as a guest, I always bring deviled eggs to bbqs and family gatherings. Who doesn’t love a deviled egg???

I also always love to bring my flourless chocolate torte to share and let others try a “healthified” dessert. That way I don’t feel the need to take a personal sample platter of the million desserts laid out at a pot-luck (which I used to do!).

So I know it seems simple, but these tips really help me stay calm and collected even on my busiest days. I know that there will always be tasty keto food for my family!

Thank you for this very do-able list! I’m trying to convert my 18 and 19 year olds to healthy snacks, especially when we go to the boat and I’m going to try these suggestions.

  • Cindy says:

Thanks, Maria, for the suggestions. I think it is difficult to stay on track while away from home. Your suggestions are good ones. Yes, planning is key.

  • Susan says:

As always, you’re on top of it, Maria. Thanks for sharing your wealth of information and wisdom.

  • Deborah says:

I am currently working full time and the past six months I have been taking work related courses. I have “slipped”, but haven’t purchased any restaurant fast food. I have been eating a bit more bread than usual and once a week I use store bought convenience meals that I can pop in the oven before I head off to class. I had followed a keto-adapted lifestyle for over six months before I started my courses and with the past six months of not eating healthy as I have been I have really noticed a difference. I agree that planning is the key to success…

  • Deborah says:

Further to my comment above… I am currently finishing off my grocery shopping list for the next week and as usual I am using your quick and easy Ketogenic Cooking cookbook. LOVE IT! A couple of weeks ago I made the Paletas using lemon and they were fabulous. My son also liked them. Making them again this weekend.

I will write a review on Amazon, your books are excellent.

Today I made the Chicken Enchiladas from the Ketogenic Cookbook and it’s my favourite recipe of yours that I’ve tried.

Do you have tips for enjoying some of summers fruit? That’s been what I crave most. I find that the keto recipes/lifestyle fulfil all my desires for salty, crunchy, fatty, and as such I don’t crave processed snacks or baked goods. What I will struggle with is the peaches that will be out this month in northern Canada as well as the cherries. Is there a way to incorporate some of these fruits on a keto diet in the summer? I suppose it has to do with carb counting and ketone testing and experimenting. Im wondering if this is a common question and whether you have tips.
