Keto For Weight Loss

Let’s be honest, most people start the ketogenic diet to help with weight loss. Honestly, a lot of people give up on keto because they are not losing weight like they hoped they would.

The problem is because there is too much bad information about keto for weight loss all over the internet now.

Some of the bad information I see about keto for weight loss are:

“If you aren’t losing weight, add more fat”

“If you aren’t losing weight, eat an avocado.”

“If you aren’t losing weight, drink a bulletproof coffee.”

“If you aren’t losing weight, lower your protein intake.”

Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad advice! Let me show you why that is bad advice.

If you want to Maximize Your Fat Loss Goals and do Keto for Fat Loss, you must understand how your body processes different fuels.

When we eat, our bodies have an established process for dealing with each type of fuel. The food you eat gets processed in the GI tract and is sent into the bloodstream.

When you eat a 500-calorie meal for example, there is a lot of fuel going into the bloodstream compared to the 30 calories or so you might normally have circulating in the blood from all fuels (glucose, ketones and fat). Your body needs to deal with this fuel so that you don’t have an oversupply of any fuel in the bloodstream. An over supply in the blood from any of these fuels can kill you.

To process the fuel, your body first shuts off lipolysis (the process of burning fat from fat storage) so your blood isn’t overloaded with fuel.

In other words, when you eat, your body stops adding fuel to your blood from storage. Then your body uses oxidative priority to return your blood’s fuel levels to normal by processing the fuel in order of priority; it starts with the highest priority fuel: alcohol. Once that fuel is processed, your body processes the second highest priority fuel and continues to move down the line of priority until all fuels are processed or stored.

While processing fuels of higher priority, lower priority fuels (like fat) get pushed into storage. So a meal high in alcohol, carbs and fat means the carbs and fat mostly get stored while the body is dealing with the alcohol.
