How I Get My Straight Hair CURLY: My Step-by-Step Guide to Curly Hair
You all probably think that my hair is always curly but in reality, it is easier to make my hair straight than it is to make it curly.
Yes, I do spend the time to get my straight hair curly because I do prefer getting my natural curls to come out and my goal for this post and my step-by-step guide on YouTube is to show you that maybe you can get your hair curly too!
My hair doesn’t naturally dry into the curls you often see me wearing. I have to create and encourage the curl, and over time I have figured out a routine that works really well for me.
The secret isn’t one magical product.
It’s the combination of products, how I layer them, my diffuser technique, what I do overnight—and how I support healthy hair from the INSIDE.
My step-by-step guide to curly hair starts in the shower with Redken curl shampoo, followed by K18 bond repair. Then I layer curl cream, mousse, gel, and sometimes a light hairspray before carefully diffusing my hair section by section.
But beautiful hair isn’t only about what I put ON my hair.
I also pay attention to protein, nutrient dense organs, hormonal health, amino acids, collagen, thyroid nutrition, and overall metabolic health.
Here is my step by step guide on how I get my straight hair curly:
BEST CURLY HAIR PRODUCTS
Step 1: I Start With Redken Detox Shampoo
Everything starts in the shower.
I wash my hair with Redken Detox Shampoo.
I want my hair clean, but I also want it prepared for the curl products I’m about to apply.
One of the things I’ve learned about styling straight hair curly is that you don’t want to wait until the very end and expect one styling product to magically create curls.
The entire routine matters.
Step 2: K18 Bond Repair
After washing my hair, I use K18 Bond Repair.
I apply my K18 and then wait the full: 4Â MINUTES.
I don’t immediately start layering other products on top. It is important to give K18 at least 4 minutes before moving on to my styling products.
My Curl Routine at a Glance
| Step | Product/Technique | What I Do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Redken Curl Shampoo | Wash hair |
| 2 | K18 Bond Repair | Apply and wait 5 minutes |
| 3 | Kenra Curl Cream | Work through hair |
| 4 | Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Mousse | Add volume and curl support |
| 5 | Rizos Curl Gel | Add hold and definition |
| 6 | Curlsmith Light Hold Hairspray | Optional extra hold |
| 7 | Diffuser | Hold each section about 5 minutes |
| 8 | Bobby pins | Pin up curls for extra curl |
| 9 | Silk cap | Protect curls overnight |
Step 3: Kenra Curl Cream
Once my five minutes with K18 are up, I move on to Kenra Curl Cream.
This is where I start encouraging my hair to take on the shape I want.
I work the curl cream into my damp hair, making sure it is distributed throughout the areas I want to curl.
Step 4: Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Mousse
Next comes Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Mousse.
Mousse helps me get the body and lift I want without relying entirely on heavier styling products and gets my straight hair curly with a lightweight formula!
Step 5: Rizos Curl Gel
Next, I use Rizos Curl Gel.
Once I’ve encouraged my straight hair into a curl pattern, I want something that helps hold that shape while my hair dries and Rizos Curl get really helps get my straight hair curly!
Why I Layer My Curl Products
| Layer | Main Purpose |
|---|---|
| Curl cream | Soft styling foundation |
| Mousse | Body, volume and curl support |
| Gel | Definition and stronger hold |
| Hairspray | Optional finishing hold |
Rather than expecting one product to do everything, I’m layering different types of styling support.
Step 6: Curlsmith Light Hold Alcohol-Free Hairspray
When I want another layer of hold, I add Curlsmith Light Hold Alcohol-Free Hairspray.
I don’t want curls that feel like a helmet.
I want:
Definition + hold + movement.
Step 7: The Diffuser Is Where the Magic Happens
Products are only half of my routine.
How I dry my hair makes a HUGE difference.
I use a diffuser and work through my hair section by section.
I gather each section into the diffuser and hold it there for approximately:
3 to 5 MINUTES PER SECTION.
My straight hair needs time to dry while being supported in that curled position.
If I rush this step, I don’t get the same result.
Once my hair is completely dry, I can stop there.
But if I want REALLY curly hair, I take it one step further.
My Overnight Trick for REALLY Curly Hair
I do the entire process at night:
Wash → K18 → Curl Cream → Mousse → Gel → Hairspray if desired → Diffuse.
Once my hair is dry, I carefully pin my curls up with bobby pins.
Then I put on my silk cap and go to bed.
In the morning, I remove the silk cap and bobby pins and let the curls fall.
The curls come out!
Daytime vs. Overnight
| Regular Routine | Extra-Curly Overnight Routine |
|---|---|
| Style and diffuse | Style and diffuse |
| Wear immediately | Pin curls up |
| Normal curly result | More dramatic curl |
| No overnight setting | Set overnight |
| Faster | Requires planning |
| Great everyday option | My choice when I want REALLY curly hair |
But Healthy Hair Starts From the Inside
Goddess Vitality: Why I Added Beef Organs to My Healthy-Hair Routine
Another important part of my inside-out approach to healthy hair is Goddess Vitality Beef Organ Supplement for Women.
I am a huge believer in nose-to-tail nutrition.
For generations, people didn’t just eat steaks and chicken breasts. Nutrient-dense organs were valuable parts of the animal too.
Organs such as liver are naturally concentrated sources of important micronutrients, including vitamin B12, preformed vitamin A, zinc, selenium, riboflavin, folate, iron and copper, although the exact amounts in an organ supplement depend on the organs used and the serving size.
Why does this matter for hair?
“Because growing hair is metabolically expensive.”
A hair follicle needs adequate protein, energy, micronutrients, oxygen delivery, and normal hormonal signaling to maintain its growth cycle.
A supplement can’t overcome an underlying medical cause of hair loss, but correcting a true nutrient deficiency can make an enormous difference.
Why I Love Organ Nutrition for Women
Women can be particularly vulnerable to inadequate iron status because of menstrual blood loss, pregnancy, frequent blood donation, restrictive dieting, or simply not consuming enough iron-rich foods.
Iron is especially important because it is required for hemoglobin and normal oxygen transport. I personally suffered with low iron despite eating red meat daily!
Low iron stores can also be associated with diffuse hair shedding in some women and it did for me.
That is one reason I pay attention to nutrient-dense animal foods.
But I don’t blindly take large doses of isolated iron. I find that dangerous which is why I use Goddess Vitality for my iron levels.
Goddess Vitality is the GOAT because only 2 capsules provides all the nutrients in needed for correcting most nutrient deficiencies. And only 2 capsules are required where other organ supplements require 6 per serving!
Beef Organs and Hair
Hair is primarily made from keratin, a protein.
So my first priority remains adequate complete protein and essential amino acids.
But producing and maintaining healthy tissue also requires micronutrients.
Organ Nutrients and Healthy Hair
| Nutrient | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Vitamin B12 | Required for normal red blood cell formation and DNA synthesis |
| Iron | Required for hemoglobin and oxygen transport |
| Vitamin A | Important for normal cell differentiation |
| Riboflavin | Supports normal energy metabolism |
| Folate | Required for DNA synthesis and cell division |
| Copper | Involved in iron metabolism and connective-tissue enzymes |
| Protein/amino acids | Provide building blocks for body proteins |
This doesn’t mean taking an organ supplement automatically makes hair grow faster.
Hair loss can have MANY causes, including thyroid dysfunction, hormonal changes, inadequate calories or protein, illness, medications, genetics, stress, and nutrient deficiencies.
But I want to make sure my body isn’t missing important nutritional building blocks.
Goddess Vitality and Skin Health
I also think about skin.
Healthy skin has an enormous nutritional requirement because it is constantly renewing itself.
Protein provides amino acids needed for structural proteins and enzymes, while micronutrients such as vitamin A, B vitamins, iron, copper, and other nutrients support normal cellular processes.
This is where I like combining my approaches.
I prioritize complete protein and essential amino acids, while collagen-rich foods and peptides provide a different amino acid profile rich in glycine and proline.
Then nutrient-dense foods and organ products can help provide micronutrients that participate in the processes that maintain healthy tissue.
My Skin Nutrition Strategy
| Foundation | What It Provides |
|---|---|
| Beef, eggs, fish & other animal proteins | Complete protein + EAAs |
| Essential Amino Acids | Supplemental essential amino acids |
| Accelerated Bio Peptides | Collagen-rich peptides |
| Goddess Vitality | Concentrated organ-derived micronutrients |
| Vitamin C-rich foods (found in bio peptid | Vitamin C required for normal collagen synthesis |
| Healthy fats | Essential fatty acids and energy |
No single item does everything.
The combination matters.
Beef Organs and Muscle
When we’re talking about muscle, protein still comes first.
You cannot replace adequate complete protein with a handful of organ capsules.
Muscle protein synthesis requires essential amino acids, and resistance training provides the stimulus telling the body that muscle is needed.
But muscle cells also rely on micronutrients and normal energy metabolism.
B vitamins, iron, copper, and other nutrients found in animal foods participate in pathways involving oxygen transport, mitochondrial metabolism, and energy production.
So I think of organ nutrition as supporting the nutritional environment rather than replacing protein or exercise.
For muscle, my priorities remain:
Complete protein + essential amino acids + resistance training + adequate micronutrients.
Why Organs Are So Nutrient Dense
One reason I love organ foods is that a relatively small amount can contain substantial amounts of certain micronutrients.
Liver is the classic example.
Muscle Meat vs. Organ Meat
| Muscle Meat | Organ Meat |
|---|---|
| Excellent complete protein | Excellent nutrient density |
| Rich in B12, zinc and iron | Can be especially rich in vitamin A, B12, folate, iron and copper |
| Major source of essential amino acids | Concentrated source of select micronutrients |
| Foundation of my protein intake | Complements muscle meat |
| Excellent for muscle | Helps broaden micronutrient intake |
I don’t think it needs to be one or the other.

My Inside-Out Healthy Hair Strategy
When I put everything together, my approach looks like this:
| What I Use | Why It’s Part of My Routine |
|---|---|
| Complete animal protein | Essential amino acids + complete protein |
| Goddess Vitality Beef Organs | Organ-derived micronutrients |
| Accelerated Aminos | Supplemental EAAs |
| Accelerated Bio Peptides | Collagen-rich peptides |
| Adequate iodine | Essential for normal thyroid hormone synthesis |
| Liver-health strategy | Supports overall metabolic health |
| K18 | Helps care for the existing hair fiber |
| Careful styling | Reduces unnecessary mechanical stress |
| Silk cap | Helps reduce friction while sleeping |
Healthy hair reflects what is happening throughout the body.
Protein matters, iron status matters, thyroid health matters, hormones matter, energy intake matters, micronutrients matter and the physical care of the hair fiber matters.
Food First, Supplements Second
Even though I use Goddess Vitality and other supplements, I don’t want the message to become:
“Take a capsule instead of eating well.”
It is exactly the opposite.
My foundation is real food.
Beef.
Eggs.
Fish.
Seafood.
Poultry.
And organ meats when possible.
A beef organ supplement is simply a convenient way to incorporate some of the nutritional qualities of organ foods when you aren’t regularly putting liver on your dinner plate.
Food first. Supplements fill the gaps.
Final Thoughts on Healthy Hair
The more I’ve learned about hair, the more I’ve realized that beautiful hair isn’t just a beauty issue.
Hair can reflect what’s happening throughout the body.
That is why my healthy-hair routine extends far beyond shampoo.
I care about my protein intake, essential amino acids, collagen, iron status, thyroid nutrition, my liver and metabolic health. And I incorporate nutrient-dense organ foods and products such as Goddess Vitality Beef Organ Supplement for Women into my personal routine.
Then I take care of the hair I’ve grown with K18, careful styling, and my silk cap.
Nourish the follicle from the inside. Protect the hair fiber on the outside.
That’s my approach to healthy hair.
My Inside-Out Hair Strategy
When I put everything together, my hair routine really has two completely different sides.
Outside vs. Inside
| OUTSIDE: Styling & Protection | INSIDE: Nutrition & Health |
|---|---|
| Redken Curl Shampoo | Complete animal protein |
| K18 Bond Repair | Accelerated Aminos |
| Kenra Curl Cream | Accelerated Bio Peptides |
| Curl Talk Mousse | Adequate iodine/thyroid nutrition |
| Rizos Curl Gel | Overall metabolic health |
| Curlsmith Hairspray | Liver health |
| Diffuser technique | Micronutrient sufficiency with Goddess Vitality |
| Silk cap | Adequate energy and nutrition |
The products on the left help me style and protect the hair I already have.
The things on the right help provide the nutritional environment my follicles need to grow new hair.
That distinction is incredibly important.
Don’t Forget the Most Important Hair Nutrient: Protein
With all of these supplements, I still don’t want the main message getting lost.
Food comes first.
My foundation is high-quality animal protein.
Beef.
Eggs.
Fish.
Seafood.
Poultry.
I don’t use collagen, amino acids, or iodine as an excuse to under-eat complete protein.
Supplements are exactly what their name suggests:
They supplement the foundation.
TESTIMONY OF THE DAY
“No more hair extensions!!!Before I started my Keto journey, I was sick and overweight.  I was working 45+ hours a week on average.  My body was ravaged by autoimmune diseases, my joints ached like that of a sick 80-something year old woman, I was severely bloated, I had no energy, I was depressed, and my hair had fallen out to the point of embarrassment.  I had hair extensions professionally placed to help conceal the hair loss, and stated following Maria Wojcik Emmerich’s approach to healthy living including eating a clean ketogenic diet and using collagen.Today, my joints no longer ache.  I have tons of newfound energy.  30lbs-gone.  I’m wearing clothes I haven’t been able to wear in years.  My hair has grown back—I even had my extensions removed!  My hair has never been this soft, shiny, and healthy!  Even my hair stylist agrees!  She’s so excited for me!  My nails are the longest and strongest they’ve ever been, too!  I quit my full time job and am now a devoted stay at home mom.  I am happier, and more motivated than ever to love myself—Because if you cannot love yourself, you can’t possibly effectively pour love into your family and community.I encourage each and every one of you to devote the future to YOU.  You deserve to feel good.  You deserve to be happy!  And most importantly, you deserve to be HEALTHY!  The one thing that Maria & Craig Emmerich taught me that nobody else has ever effectively been able to is to love myself, and for that I will be forever grateful “ AutumnMost people I consult are doing keto totally wrong.
