Hi, Maria. Are any of the supplements you recommend in the sleep video not recommended for nursing mothers? I have a terrible time with waking at 2-3am and not falling back to sleep, but I am nursing a nearly six month old. Thanks for any help you can give.

    • Maria Emmerich says:

There shouldn’t be any issues but you can check with your doctor to be sure.

I am nursing a toddler and sleep about 4-5/hrs per night for the past 5 years (two kids, two years apart/nursing). After taking those supplements and more based on the personalized recommendation, my toddler was getting a headache so I stopped. He said he felt like his head was cracking after 3 days of my supplement use. I stopped for 2 weeks and tried again, same outcome. So I just decided to wait until he is fully self-weaned. In addition I had labs done and told all was normal, including thyroid with antibodies, iron, vit D, and hormones. The Dr. recommended I try a melatonin supplement at dinner (I’ve yet to try, but will use Maria’s patches recommendation). The magnesium glycinate gave me hives, but I tolerated the magnesium citrate. I suspect leaky gut in my case.

Thanks for posting this Maria. I have been suffering with monthly migraines for over 20 years and doctors have not suggested these supplements! I can’t wait to try them. I’ve only been Keto a couple of months but I am hopeful the dietary change will help as well.

  • Diane says:

Thanks Maria! I wake 4-9 times a night to pee, (even when using sleep medication (such as neurontin and seroquel– both off-label for sleep only). Waking so many times during the night makes me feel terrible. So I am really looking forward to trying your sleep tips!!!

Have been doing keto for 1 year with no limits on fat or calories. Have not lost weight, but observe less dizziness from blood sugar issues. So glad I found your site! Your approach makes more sense, especially advising more protein and limiting calories. I have read so many others who advise not to count calories or limit fat, but that didn’t work for me. Thanks again!!!
I enjoy the ocean backdrop in your videos. Do you live in Hawaii or just on vacation?

I love this on sleep! I am 52 and have suffered for 15 years… I’m so happy to have found you and keto. I am currently taking Mag Gycinate and L- Trytophan. Can wait to try the others you suggested. Thanks for all you do!!!!!

  • Have you ever heard of ASMR, Maria?

  • Pamela says:

Appreciated this video and all the info you shared Maria.
You asked for topics. I was just chatting with a friend in the Philippines who is doing Keto.
We talked about people that are moving to Vegan lifestyle. Do you have any videos on the health
aspects of going vegan, especially in the realm of long term health issues that can come from it.
I have a friend that fell hook link and sinker for some man that teaches vegan and that no one needs
proteins from meat nor fats in their diet to be healthy. Would love to hear yours and Craigs’s thoughts
    on this.
And YAY I got my 30 day cleanse book two days ago. Reading and getting ready to #KetoOn!!

  • Audrey says:

Perhaps you could tell us how you keep your teeth so wonderfully white. I did a search, and couldn’t find anything about teeth on your site. thanks.

  • Sue says:

Maria, are the supplements you mention safe for children? If so, how would I decide which ones, and the dosage? My 9 year old daughter has NEVER slept through the night – from infant on. We may get a stretch of a few nights to (just once) a month straight, but then she’s waking at night again. She used to have bad dreams, but now she says she isn’t, she just wakes and can’t fall back asleep. I refuse to use a “medical” sleep aid for her because that’s not true/natural sleep, but I know how detrimental lack of sleep can be for her and her growing body and brain…
I own almost all of your books, but have yet to pick up the 30 day cleanse one that you mentioned in your video. It will definitely be the next one I do!

  • Joyce bordarampe says:

    Hi Maria,

First of all, thanks for all your recipes. My husband and I started eating Keto because of his diabetes. He now no longer needs medication.
I am interested in hearing if you have any knowledge about age related dry eyes and dry mouth during the night. I keep liquid tears and a dry mouth spray by my bed and use them 2 – 3 times each night. I seldom stay awake after using them, but I crave continuous sleep and am in need of a nap every day.

  • Kim says:

I would love for you to talk about hair loss after starting keto and how to avoid or minimize that. I have tried to make sure I hit my protein, and I’ve added biotin and collagen about three weeks ago, but I am still losing hair. My loss started about three months after starting keto, and has continued for almost two months.

  • Tammy Guerin says:

    Great video Maria on sleep.
Question, it’s getting better, but sometimes I wake up hungry. I try to
Fast til at least 9:00, but sometimes I just can’t. Is there something I might be doing to encourage this. Side note, sometimes I’m not eating my last meal until 6:30- 7:00 pm
I’m on day 13 of cleanse.

    • Maria Emmerich says:

It takes 4-6 weeks to get really keto adapted so give it time.
Also, make sure your last meal is finished at least 2-3 hours before bed time.

  • Jenn says:

is evening primrose safe to use while trying to conceive? beside an increase in calories, what do you need to adjust in your keto diet if you are pregnant?

    • Maria Emmerich says:

Just calories. You just need to add enough to during the pregnancy (200 or so in beginning and 400 or so at end).

  • Allenia says:

I am curious to know how KETO works for those of us who don’t have a gallbladder. If the job of the gallbladder is to produce bile to breakdown fat how does it work? Should I be taking some sort of bile supplement? Thank you and I have really enjoyed following you and learning so much from you. Love from one home schooling, business owning Mama to another!

    • Maria Emmerich says:

The common bile duct, which still remains after the gallbladder is removed, takes over a lot of the function of the gallbladder when it is taken out. That is why you can have your gallbladder removed and not totally fall apart by not being able to digest any fats. Coconut oil is very good for someone without a gallbladder because it doesn’t require bile acids for absorption. All MCT (medium chain triglycerides) are like this. You can also use dandelion and ox bile to increase bile production. So eating this way is great for someone without a gallbladder.

  • Simon says:

    Thank you very much.

This was excellent and help us to have some clues on what we may need!

  • Nia Kelly says:

Maria can you explain why I have such dry mouth and I’m so thirsty in the morning? Is there anything I can do to avoid that? Thanks
