KETOGENIC DIETS FOR GALLBLADDER HEALTH

KETOGENIC DIETS FOR GALLBLADDER HEALTH
A question I get almost daily is: “CAN I EAT KETO IF I NO LONGER HAVE A GALLBLADDER?”
I just did an interview for a popular newspaper and she asked if someone can eat keto if he/she has their gallbladder removed.

The common bile duct, which still remains after the gallbladder is removed, takes over a lot of the function of the gallbladder when it is taken out. That is why you can have your gallbladder removed and not totally fall apart by not being able to digest any fats. Coconut oil is very good for someone without a gallbladder because it doesn’t require bile acids for absorption. All MCT (medium chain triglycerides) are like this. You can also use dandelion and ox bile to increase bile production.

So eating keto is great for someone without a gallbladder.

Adding in Vitamin K2 is also essential for anyone with gall stones or kidney stones! Click HERE to find and add in 300mcg at your first meal of the day!

TESTIMONY OF THE DAY

“Hi Maria! I have been following you on Facebook for a while. A year ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. My A1C was 10.7 and my fasting glucose was 231. My doctor said it was considered out of control and told me he couldn’t let me leave his office without medication. I had been following you for about 6 months at that point and knew if I changed my habits I could reverse this. So, I begged him to give me 30 days to show improvement. He very reluctantly agreed.

I went straight home got on the computer and on your site. I purchased your supplement plan for diabetics, plugged my info into the Keto calculator and made myself a meal plan for the week. 30 days later my A1C dropped to 7.6 and my fasting glucose was 113. My doctor could not believe his eyes. He then gave me 90 more days to see what I could do. 90 days later my A1C was down to 5.2 and my fasting glucose was 94. He was dumbfounded and asked me if I could teach his diabetic patients what I was doing (I gave him your website for reference).

I just went in on Tuesday for my annual checkup. I have been following the Keto diet for exactly a year. My A1C is 5.0 and my fasting glucose is 80I have lost 45 pounds. Even though I did not purchase a meal plan or consultation, I have several of your books and I use your website and your Facebook page regularly. I just wanted to thank you. I appreciate everything you do and all the information you have available for free on your website and your Facebook page. My husband has benefited from this change in our diet as well. He’s lost 115 pounds! Thank you again! Trina Nonis (I’ve attached a before & after photo)” – Trina

  • Thanks for sharing! I didn’t know this myself. Where is the bile duct?

I appreciate this post! I haven’t had a gallbladder since I was 19. I started a Keto lifestyle December 2, and have been looking for information on this

I have no gallbladder and had gastric bypass 3 years ago. Maintained my weight loss but would like to drop another 30-40 pounds. So do I take the ox bile (where do I get this and is it in pill form?) or coconut oil as a daily supplement? I do about 2-3 T of coconut oil a day just in my BPC coffee fat bombs. With the gastric bypass should I be eating smaller more frequent meals? I get full quick. I usually drink my BPC in the morning and am not hungry all day at all. The only reason I truly eat is just to have something in my mouth. How is the best way to lay this out? Thank you in advance for your help. I truly appreciate any advice to get me going! This WOE is so easy… if only I didn’t have these two issues!

Gastric bypass complicates things. But I would still focus on getting just real whole foods with little to no carbs and moderate protein. Adding fat just to add fat isn’t needed. And I don’t recommend BPC, chewing registers leptin better and you get more nutrients from whole foods. This ox bile can help (and includes other good things in addition to ox bile) if you have issues with certain fats.

Thanks for the info.. I’m a registered nurse and get asked all the time by my patients what they should and shouldn’t be eating when they have gallbladder issues. Of course I want to suggest Keto for obvious reasons, but wasn’t sure it was appropriate. I appreciate your tips…That’s why my family loves you guys. You’re truly doing something amazing.

    Hi Maria!

I had sleeve gastrectomy on April 2013 have gained 30 lbs (I reintroduced carbs into my diet) from my lowest of 125. I still have my gallbladder and still feel restriction when I eat. What can I do to have optimum health and success with Keto? I drink BPC every other day. I’m looking into starting to track macros but confused if should use grams over ounces? Any supplements that you recommend?

    Hi Maria,
Happy to see this article. I am having my gallbladder out on the 24th of this month. I do hair and see lots of people daily. I keep getting told “it’s so bad to not have a gallbladder. Oh you poor thing, I need to have a bathroom close always!” I keep telling them I gave up the fast food, French fries, carbs and sugar Jan 1st but they insist it’s going to be bad. Grrr I know they mean well but man these Debbie downers are scary. Help is it going to be ok?
