Testimony of the Day on TOO MUCH PROTEIN

“I just wanted to send my thank yous. I have been following you for a while, have all of your cookbooks and love your recipes. Recently (the last two months), my weight loss stalled. I’ve lost 70 lbs since last year and have another 50 to go (down 110 lbs from my heaviest weight). My husband has lost 75 lbs.

I was keeping my carbs under 30g but didn’t pay any attention to my protein and fat.

1 1/2 weeks ago, I started tracking everything. 5% carbs, 15% protein and 80% fat. Although my fat intake isn’t quite there, I (counter-intuitively) upped my fat dramatically. Lo and behold, I’m losing again!

I work, I go to school full-time (graduating in December…wahoo!!!), I’m a wife, mom and grandma. Life is super busy but I make sure to make the time to cook. I spend Saturday mornings baking. Through Maria, and further study, I have become very aware of what is in food and make my choices accordingly. Please, don’t ever feel defeated. I didn’t think I could do this but I did. I’ve heard it from others…If I can do this, so can you! This is now our lifestyle. This is not a “diet”. We will be eating like this for the rest of our lives. We’re losing weight, our BP is down, we’re getting off of meds…and we’re looking good too! I just want to say thank you to Maria again! She’s made this transformation “easy” through her writings, her explanations (it’s easier to make choices when it makes sense and Maria is great helping it make sense) and all of her wonderful recipes!

On a side note, we also have a 14 year old son.  In the last year of making these changes, he has only lost 5 lbs (he was pretty heavy as well)…however, he grew 5 inches.  He went from 5’7″ and 195 lbs to 6’0″ and 190 lbs.  He’s looking fantastic!  Very proud of him as well.

I’ve spent decades overweight, following a 1200 calorie diet, low fat and whole grains. Amazing that now I’m eating almost 2000 calories, low carb/high fat diet, I’m still shedding the weight! Thank you for all of your advice! This has been an amazing transformation of my life!” Maryann

Yep! Too much protein turns into sugar too! This isn’t just a “low carb” diet, it is a “keto-adapted” diet! A fat-burning diet! To get started on your journey to health, click HERE.

What if I told you that everything we have been taught to eat in our diet has been completely wrong and our typical American diet is causing inflammation. Inflammation is the stem of most modern diseases. I hear from many people that they are on an “anti-inflammatory” diet, but are they really? An inflammatory diet is cutting all sugar and when I write sugar, I also mean starch. Starch and “complex carbohydrates” are just glucose molecules hooked together in a long chain, the digestive tract breaks it down into sugar. So a starchy diet is the same as a sugar diet.

Another shocker is that you can not store protein and too much protein turns into sugar too! You may be wondering what’s left to eat? No starch and limited protein? Fat, and lots of it. It is considered a ketogenic diet. You will start to hear more and more information about ketogenic diets and the powerful healing benefits they have. To many clients I see remain slaves to the belief that glucose is the dominant source of fuels, so they live their lives in a fear of running low. The truth is, fat is the ideal energy source and has been for most of human evolution. In fact, it is this blind allegiance to the “Carb Paradigm” that has driven so many of us to experience the vast array of metabolic problems that threaten to overwhelm our health care system.

A ketogenic diet isn’t something new that has been recently formulated; people have been on a ketogenic diet for virtually three million years in which our brains were nurtured and evolved. Now the human brain is not only shrinking, but brain atrophy is the norm as we age and get plagued with diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

People mistakenly think that they need to eat less and exercise more to create a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. This is not how diet and exercise helps with weight loss. A well-formulated keto-adapted diet along with proper exercise builds muscle and muscle builds mitochondria. It is in the mitochondria where fat is oxidized so you can keep your cells and liver insulin sensitized. Weight loss and health is about healthy mitochondria and about controlling hormones and specifically insulin.

This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. By eating this way, you will begin to heal your cells and will keep evolving your body into the happy and healthy person you want to be. This book is filled with the most impeccable nutrition information to fuel your cells. My passion goes beyond explaining the ‘why’, I am a master in the kitchen and love food. My keto-adapted recipes at the end of the book tie all the nutrition together so you can become keto-adapted faster than ever.

Learn how to fuel your cells properly so you can love and adore your body; it is however the most precious thing you will ever own.

Discover the amazing health and healing benefits to this well-formulated keto-adapted lifestyle and what most “low carb” diets are lacking which cause the undesired effects like lethargy. Other shocking facts covered:

-What foods turn on the “fat switch”

-How to heal autoimmune disorders with diet and therapeutic supplements

-How to exercise with keto-adaptation

-Cleansing the liver properly so you can increase moods and burn fat faster

-Supplements to speed up keto-adaptation

Hi, all! Note that the Keto-Adapted audiobook also contains the PDF with before/after pics and the Notes section, so you can be inspired by the physical transformations clients have experienced, and also do lots of further reading/research if you’re so inclined. Blind/visually impaired audiences: the PDF is accessible!

Did you read your own book, Maria?

  • Marie says:

I love audiobooks so I am really welcoming this news. Congratulations

Maria may I ask you an off topic question about one of your recipes? I would like to bake your Almond Roca Mocha Cake for my upcoming birthday. Since the cake is fairly complicated and requires very expensive ingredients I don’t want to mess it up. I went through the recipe and one thing I don’t understand is how come the body of the cake is only composed of eggs, butter/oil and chocolate. It’s supposed to be a 10 inch diameter cake that I should be able to cut crosswise into four sections but I can’t see how the ingredients could be enough or if it will hold together enough to cut into so many pieces. There is no flour or baking powder that would make it rise. I know that egg whites if beaten really well can increase in volume considerably but it’s only enough to cover the bottom of the pan.

Am I missing something? Thank you so much for your advice.

  • SG says:

Maria, would a Keto-adapted lifestyle lower creatinine levels? My mom’s levels are a bit elevated. If so, what would be your best plan for that and for her stomach issues? I think she read that she needs low-protein as well as low-carb for elevated creatinine.

    • Maria Emmerich says:

I think it could help, yes. 🙂

      • SG says:

Would the Keto 30 Maintain and Heal be good? She asked about that one.

        • Maria Emmerich says:

That one is more for maintaining your weight (not losing weight) and healing. That is a great option if she doesn’t have weight to lose. 🙂

          • SG says:

Ok, I’ll tell her. She doesn’t need to lose. So, that one is good for overall health? Would it address chronic constipation? Sorry, I didn’t mean to hijack your topic.

          • Maria Emmerich says:

Yes, Otis great for overall health. It can help with constipation too, but if it persists my $25 constipation supplement plan is a great option.

  • SG says:

    Perfect! Thank-you!

I am also really excited to order your cookbook. I have been waiting for it since you posted that it was in the works. And by the way, my kids and husband have loved every one of your recipes I’ve made from the blog or your cookbooks. So, I know it will be a great resource.

  • helene says:

I cant find the vit k drops you recommend for kids, in ur store or in a blog post…help?
Im trying to figure out even how much kids need to take each day. Thanx

  • Hélène says:

I actually looked at these as they’re caps. I figure I could just open the caps each morning and sprinkle on something. My kids are 10 & 8 and can NOT swallow even the smallest, flat tabs. But I thot you had drops you used for your kids. Must be just the vitD comes in drops.
There are two different strengths in caps too, 45-50mcg and 100mcg. I thot the kids would take smaller amount…

I have alot of vitD drops I bought, to supplement the CLO Im taking, to get my vitD levels up to par. I figured I’d give it to them also, but I don’t want to give the D without the K.

    • Maria Emmerich says:

Oh, OK. These are super small capsules. They are the smallest pills I have seen. Our boys have no problem taking them. Otherwise, as you say, you can open then and mix into food, etc. 100mcg is an ok dose for that age. 🙂
